Artisan Awards

About This Award...

This award is given to outstanding sites that are aesthetically pleasing and have something unique. It is given for artistry, design skill, originality, and content. Business sites may apply, but please have something creative to share.

Turn-around time may be up to 180 days, depending on the number of sites to be reviewed. Only winners will be notified. Please do not reapply within six months of submission.

Criteria follows (if you have any questions, please email me). If you are interested in applying for the Artisan Studio Design Award, please read the entire criteria. Sites that do not follow the criterea will be disqualified. If you can't take the time to read and understand this, I won't take the time to view your site.

Privacy Policy: your information will not be submitted to any third parties. It is used solely for the purposes of site review.

SPECIFIC CRITERIA

  1. View The Winners list to get an idea of what is sought.

  2. Take the Self Test.

  3. If you do NOT take the self test, you will not know the CODE WORD to put on the application form, and will be disqualified.

  4. Please take note of COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Policy Act). You have to be 14 years or older in order to submit a site. If not, there has to be a permission letter by the parent/guardian.

  5. If your site is commercial, that's fine... but bear in mind that creativity is part of what this award is about. If you are a small business/commercial enterprise, your site will be exceptional and unique in order to qualify.

  6. Popups are irritating... not an instant disqualifier, but definitely a drag.

  7. This is not a "beginners" award. I will not go past the first page of a typical "homepage" format.

  8. No vulgarity. This is a judgement call on my part. Art and poetry sites will be given latitude here, but must be tasteful. No adult, violent, or hate themes. I am simply not interested in these.

  9. Load time... fast. I rarely wait over a minute for a page to load. Graphics should be well chosen, and midi/wav files should be fairly small. Overuse of Java Scripts and such will disqualify the site. Also, please spell check prior to applying.

  10. The site should be extremely well thought out, well integrated, and it should flow. I am not interested in animated "dance" pages, or collections of links. There should be content, and that content should be interesting to a wide audience. Layout is very important... do not just center everything or left justify everything. Use a little imagination and creativity. TABLES.... and they do NOT always have to have borders!

  11. If your site is a tribute to a lost or disabled loved one, it should have content that really conveys this. Often I see pages that are a collection of photographs and a short paragraph. I will not give this award based on empathy or sympathy. This is a site DESIGN award, not a good cause award.

  12. Please give due credit for graphics and borrowed items. Originality is a plus. Stolen bandwidth will disqualify the site.

  13. Some things you can do to test your site... You can Check your HTML with validators that are available online, such as the W3C HTML Validation Service, WDG HTML Validator, or Doctor HTML. Check all your links at NetMechanic, LinkAlarm, or Link SleuthTM, or purchase a program such as LinkScan. Also, check for browser compatibility using the free services at Web Site Garage, ANYBrowser.com, Bobby, or the Web Page Backward Compatibility Viewer.

  14. Signing my guestbook is NOT a requirement, and will have no impact on your review. You are welcome to do so, if you wish.

  15. Lastly, please bear in mind that I must LIKE the site. Yes, this is subjective... but that is just the way it is. This does not mean I must agree with your opinions, or that I will disqualify you if you happened to choose my least favorite color. It means that I must like the way the site is put together, and the overall look and feel of it.

How I will rate your site...

I do not use a scorecard, but if the page contains over 3 spelling errors or broken links/images, your site will be disqualified. This is a very cubjective award, and is based on presentation and content. If the content, itself, is rather dry BUT is presented in a way that makes it interesting, your chances are pretty good. I am looking for intelligent design. Quality layout. You don't need to use high-tech flash or other elements to get my attention... a good, clean, creative site can stand on its own merrit.

Please view The Winners list to get an idea of the quality of site I am looking for. The Artisan Award is meant to reflect only the best of the best... these sites are flawless or nearly so.

If I have not frightened you away... please continue to the self test. I will review EVERY site submitted with the CORRECT CODE WORD. Only winners will be notified. Please allow up to 180 days for review. Good luck!
